LUTHERAN SPEAKER: The Rev. Susan Briehl will speak at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Abiding Presence on the campus of Texas Lutheran University at 1000 W. Court St. in Seguin. She is a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and was ordained in 1981. Her talk is part of the annual Hein-Fry Lecture Series, the topic of which this year is “Hearing the Word: Teaching the Bible in the Parish and Beyond.” It is free and open to the public.

JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL: Barshop Jewish Community Center will kick off the ninth Annual Jewish Film Festival with an opening reception at 7:15 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre at Wonderland of the Americas mall at 4522 Fredericksburg Road.
Ten films will be shown during the festival, which continues daily through Feb. 17. After three of the films there will be special guest appearances. In addition, Rabbi Samuel Stahl and Father Martin Leopold will discuss the documentary “Constantine’s Sword” after its showing at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14. Admission costs $8 per film and $70 for a festival pack.
